Educational projects
The Nadezda Foundation has supported the creation of a young people's guide for the SOIL exhibition at Somerset House by providing a grant of £7,500. This guide effectively brings the exhibition's themes to life in a manner that is engaging and appropriate for primary school children.

The generous donation of £5,000 was given to Kids N' Action to support The Winter Wonderscape event, which successfully empowered socially and economically disadvantaged young people during the school holidays in early January 2024.

2020 Young People’s Programmes

No Comply
In order to support talented young people, we work closely with our local school networks to introduce a range of Artistic opportunities to children in our surrounding areas, relating directly to the exhibitions and events we are hosting. Next year, we will be curating an exhibition exploring the evolution of Skateboarding from counterculture to Olympic Sport, entitled “No Comply”.

Skateboarding has strong community links with younger people and particularly with our neighbours, the Southbank. Our plans for next year include commissioning resident Artist Collective OOMK to work alongside children from our partners schools, responding to themes community and togetherness that are explored in our Skateboarding exhibition. The children will be asked to create a flag that will be flown from Somerset House’s mast during our Summer exhibition (June to September). Previously, we have flown specially commissioned flags created by Jeremy Deller and Larry:

We will be working closely with Westminster City Council’s “City Lions” Programme which supports young people aged 13-16 years to gain access into creative organisations. Due to lack of funding, time and resources, the creative careers are often overlooked as an avenue for employment for young people. Many are unaware of the opportunities available within the Arts or are worried about gaining the right experience. City Lions is a scheme which enables young people to gain access into the behind the scenes operating of some of Westminster’s most beloved Cultural Organisations, including Somerset House. Through this opportunity, Somerset House offers young people the chance to refine their creative skills, to meet with each other and gain a deeper understanding on the range of roles available in the creative and cultural sectors.

School Days
Each year, we nurture the talent and interest of younger children in the Arts through special days offering trips to the galleries and workshops. We will host guided tours for schools of No Comply, alongside our work with Special Education Needs Schools to provide access to Art for all children regardless of ability.
